Chad’s school had parent teacher conferences last week. It worked out well because they were scheduled for Thursday and there was no school that day but Chad went to Ma’s. So, he didn’t end up missing a day of school to go to Ma’s. Anyway, Chad’s progress report was very good. Academically he is at or above where he needs to be. They commented specifically on his imagination and how he can play by himself. They did say that “some of the time” he can follow 2-3 step directions. When asked why only some of the time they said, “well, he does step 1 great and then starts to go to step 2 and gets distracted by something else.” Go figure – his Dad has the same problem.
The main thing they still want him to work on – keeping his hands to himself. They said that Chad is a hugger and even the positive touching like that, he needs to ask first because some kids first thing in the morning are not ready for the Chad lovin’. But, they said they have seen vast improvements in that as well.
Here is what the letter we got said:
Chad always comes into school ready to explore and happy to see his friends and start the day. Most of the time Chad engages cooperatively with his friends but occasionally has trouble keeping his hand to himself, but with positive redirection he is improving daily. We are proud of his commitment to verbalize instead of physical contact. His social, readiness, motor/gross and language skills and above and beyond where they need to be.
Our goals for Chad are to focus on school guidelines, reinforce his positive communication skills, and continue to work on problem solving.
Overall, Chad enjoys coming to school to learn new challenges, readiness skills, and most of all being able to play with his friends.
