Again, we are working with Chad on sleeping issues. Up until now, he has been taking his naps in his swing. And, he was taking great naps! They were long and they were regular. He was a happy boy -- all was good in our world. But, he was outgrowing his swing. There were a couple of times that he would almost get out of his swing. So, we knew it was time to start naps in his crib. Everyone tells me (and the books I have been reading agree) that you have to let him "cry" it out. But, it is so hard to listen to my sweet little boy cry! The book I read says at nap time don't let him cry for me than an hour. (Who knew an hour could be so long???) Well, yesterday afternoon at his nap time I let him cry for about 50 minutes and then went back to get him. Much to my surprise, he had climbed out of his crib. How does a child that can't pull himself up on anything get out of the crib? Luckily, he was fine and it seemed to hurt Mom and Dad more than it hurt Chad. We immediately lowered the crib mattress so that would not happen again and Chad earned a new nickname "Spider-Man."
On a different note, we put together a new swing yesterday that will hold up to 30 lbs. His other swing was only 25 lbs. And since Chad is about 21 lbs. the swing was struggling. But, the new swing is for swinging ONLY -- no naps. We are going to continue our quest for naps in the crib.
Chad has been sleeping all night in his crib. He wakes up briefly sometimes in the middle of the night but goes back to sleep quickly.
I am going to go to Home Depot this weekend and get some of the black out blinds. I am hoping that will help with the nap time as well. Right now, it is very light in his room -- who would be able to sleep good that way?
