Week in review

It has been one week since we started the potty training nightmare process.  It has certainly been harder than I thought it would be.  There are a few things that have surprised me about the process:  1.  Chad could care less if he walks around in wet or poopy britches.  He just doesn’t want to sleep in it.  2.  He doesn’t care about any kind of prize he might get in the process.  3.  If you threaten to take away a toy or other item if he doesn’t tell you he has to go potty, he doesn’t care, he will just find something else to play with.  4.  He doesn’t care about all the cool underwear Mommy went out and bought to try and make the process fun.  5.  Forget about the kids toilets – just teach them on the big one – one less thing to clean up – and there has been A LOT to clean up!  Apparently Chad has been blessed with his Dad’s laid back personality.  It is starting to get on my nerves…

So, here is where we are.  We have been out of diapers for a week.  Last night, we started using pull-ups night time underwear, as we call them, at nights and naps.  His bladder just isn’t strong enough to hold it the 10-11 hours that he sleeps.  The most he can hold it is about 3-4 hours.   During the day, Chad will not tell me if he has to go potty but he will go in the potty every time I take him and is not afraid of toilets out in public.  So, I just take him every so often.  He is obsessed with flushing as most kids are and has even figured out how to manually flush the automatic toilets because it does make him mad that something is trying to do his job for him.  He is very good at telling me he has to go potty at naptime and bedtime – it gets him out of bed and delays the nap or bedtime.

I know everyday that passes things will get better.  I see improvements everyday.  And, we are having to train ourselves as much as we are having to train Chad!
