We were in Ponder for Christmas this year. Luckily, we hung our stockings and Santa was able to find us! GG spent the night at Mom’s house with us so she was able to be there first thing in the morning to see the kids open their stockings and their presents. Unfortunately, Mom woke up very sick that morning and was unable to participate in the fun with us.
Chad had a great time opening his presents. Every present he opened, he exclaimed, “This is the best present ever!!! This is what I always wanted!!!!” Annabel on the other hand, opened one present and just wanted that taken out of the box. She really had no interest in opening more than one! But, by far, her favorite gifts were a doll bed that Ma and P had made for her and her new American Girl Doll that GG gave her that she named Emma. (Her other American Girl Doll is also named Emma!)
Christmas is so much fun for kids and I know my children are blessed beyond measure but it is also important for me to make sure they understand the true meaning of Christmas. All along this holiday season Chad and I have talked about Jesus’ birthday and how the gifts we are getting are a reminder of that and to help us celebrate that. It was an interesting conversation when he asked me if Santa was making sure God was being good too. And, here is how I explained that. “God gives Santa all his power and his ability to fly and give all the boys and girls their presents so Santa doesn’t need to make sure God is good – God is always good!” Sure hope that was a good enough explanation for the good man up in the sky….God that is, not Santa.
